4 miles Christmas Day walk.

If you’re looking for a lovely 4-5 mile walk in Wherstead, Ipswich, you’re in luck! This beautiful route takes you on a circular walk through the countryside, with stunning views of the River Orwell and the iconic Orwell Bridge.

Starting at the Wherstead road you can park in front of the houses on left hand side if you find any space or on both sides of the road on Sundays , head towards the Service station and than to the Fox`s Marina Yacht Club entrance and turn left at the boat yard, following the footpath you will be guided beside the boat builders cabins towards the riverside. follow the tiny footpath behind the buildings continue straight ahead, following the field edge until you reach the Orwell Bridge. Cross the stile and continue along the path, taking in the beautiful views of the river as you go.

Taking care on the muddy sections, cross under the bridge. After a short while, the path will open up again and you’ll be treated to more stunning views of the river at the Orwell Bridge viewpoint. You can carefully cross the main road here and head towards the Suffolk Food Hall (Ipswich IP9 2AB) for a refreshing drink or for a quick shopping. Bustling, rustic-style market which includes gourmet food and wine stalls and a chocolate shop. This is the half stop of the journey. follow the route you took to here back. You may spot some wildlife along the way, such as birds and rabbits. Sometimes in the summer you can see sailing barge on the river heading out towards the sea.

Walking on the main road B1456 is not available, this road has no footpath section or any separation for pedestrians!

Overall, this 4-mile walk is a great way to get out into the fresh air and enjoy the beautiful countryside around river Orwell and Ipswich. Just be sure to wear appropriate footwear for the muddy sections!
