A romantic rainy afternoon in Colchester Park
Today’s walk through Colchester Park was a charming and cosy escape, even with the rain gently falling around us. We strolled along the wet paths, enjoying the fresh, earthy scent of the rain-soaked greenery. To make the most of the day, we treated ourselves to delicious Hungarian chimney cake—crispy on the outside, soft and sweet on the inside, filled with chocolate cream and fresh strawberries. It’s a delightful treat with roots dating back to 19th-century Hungary, where bakers would spin dough around a wooden or metal spit and bake it over an open flame. Today, it’s a beloved street food across Europe, loved for its warm, comforting flavour.
Afterward, we indulged in some ice-cream, savoring the cool sweetness as the rain paused momentarily. We also had fun feeding the squirrels in the park, watching their quick, curious movements and feeling a bit of magic in the simple joy of the moment.
It was a wonderfully romantic way to spend an afternoon—embracing the rain, sharing treats, and enjoying the peaceful beauty of Colchester’s park. Sometimes, the simplest days are the most memorable!
