Horsey Gap: windmill and lighthouse

A Day of Discovery at Horsey Gap

Today, we had a fantastic outing to Horsey Gap, where nature’s beauty and history intertwined for an unforgettable day. Our adventure started as we reached the coastline, immediately greeted by the sight of seals basking on the sandy shores. It was such a delight to see these majestic creatures up close, lounging comfortably on the beach while ducks and gulls flitted around, adding to the lively atmosphere.

After watching the sunrise at early morning we seen seals, we took a stroll to the iconic Horsey Windmill. This picturesque landmark, with its charming sails against the backdrop of the Norfolk landscape, provided the perfect photo opportunity.

Not far from the windmill, we decided to recharge at the local café, the Poppylands 1940s Tearoom where we were pleasantly surprised to find a World War-themed menu that paid homage to the era. From classic wartime recipes to vintage décor, the café transported us back in time. We savored delicious homemade treats and enjoyed a warm cup of tea while soaking in the nostalgia of days gone by.

Our adventure continued as we made our way to Happisburgh Lighthouse, an impressive structure that has stood sentinel over the coastline for centuries. Climbing the 112 steps to the top was well worth it, as the panoramic views of the coastline and surrounding landscape took our breath away. Little I knew that the rod to the bottom will be 5x longer (thank you my lovely little wife ♥… she fears from height). We stood in awe of the beautiful scenery and felt a profound connection to the maritime history of the region.

Our visit to Horsey Gap was a delightful mix of wildlife encounters, historical exploration, and scenic beauty. We left with fond memories, refreshed spirits, and a newfound appreciation for this enchanting part of Norfolk. We can’t wait to return for another adventure!
