7.6 miles circular walk on sunny, but very windy day.
Today’s adventure started with the sun shining brightly, promising a delightful spring day, albeit with a brisk wind that danced through the trees along our route from Somersham to Offton. As we set out, the scenery was nothing short of breathtaking, showcasing spring at its finest.
The air buzzed with the sounds of bees busy at work, and the ground beneath our feet was adorned with vibrant, fresh flowers peeking through the earth, signaling the full arrival of the season.
Our journey took us to three charming churches, each with its own unique charm. Nettlestead Church, though under renovation, stood tall, offering a glimpse into its history. Next, we continued our walk toward Winneygreen Farm, where we were greeted by a herd of beautiful cows, lazily grazing —a true pastoral sight.
After our encounter with the cows, we made our way down the hill to Willisham Church, where we paused for a short lunch break amidst the tranquility that surrounds these historic sites. Refreshed, we crossed fields to Holly Road, which led us to Offton Village, where we admired our final church.
One of the highlights was visiting the local phone booth library, where we swapped some books, adding a touch of community spirit to our day. With our hands a little heavier with new reads, we made our way to the village hall before setting off into the fields again.
Here, nature unveiled some of its hidden treasures—a couple of hares swiftly leaping across the grass, and a graceful group of deer darting through the trees, a true testament to the beauty of wildlife awakening in spring.
As we crossed the fields towards Blake Hall, we were treated to the sight of stunning horses grazing peacefully, completing the picturesque day.
Finally, we made our way back to Somersham, arriving at our car with the sun still shining, our hearts full of the day’s wonders. Today was a celebration of spring, filled with beautiful sights, local history, and the gentle embrace of nature. Here’s to many more adventures like this one!
