Snow in the City: A New Year’s adventure in Peterborough
The first few days of a New Year are usually for quiet recovery, but today, January 2nd, 2026, we had a mission: picking up one of the major piece of our campervan puzzle—a rock’n’roll bed.
While the trip to Peterborough was technically for “business” (if you can call campervan conversion business!), it turned into a magical day of sightseeing and a rare winter treat.

Our van conversion is officially getting cosy! We spent the first part of our day picking up our new rock’n’roll bed. For those who don’t know, this clever bit of engineering is a seat by day and a bed by night—the heart of any good home-on-wheels. Having it tucked away in the back of the van made the whole project feel real.
As we headed into the city centre, the weather did something we haven’t seen in England for quite a while: it started to snow. There is something truly transformative about seeing those first flurries. The gray city streets were instantly brightened by a dusting of white, making the air feel even more crisp and festive. It wasn’t a blizzard, but for a pair of Suffolk-bound travelers, it was a beautiful New Year’s gift.
With the bed safely loaded, we spent the afternoon on a short city walk:
- The absolute jewel of the city. Seeing the grand, Norman architecture framed by light was breathtaking. We took a moment to wander the grounds and soak in the history. The Cathedral.
- We navigated the nearby shopping streets, ducking in and out of a few shops to escape the bite of the wind. The city had a lovely “post-holiday” buzz—a mix of New Year sales and people braving the cold for some fresh air.
By late afternoon, the light started to fade, and it was time to start our journey back home to Suffolk. With the new bed in the back and memories of a snowy city walk, it was the perfect start to our 2026 adventures.
Next stop: Fitting the bed and getting one step closer to our first night under the stars!
